3 Things You Should Give Away

Driving down most streets in the U.S. you can’t travel far without seeing rental storage facilities in which we cram our extra stuff. So it isn’t often we think about giving something away, unless of course, it is used, broken, or we can get something out of it in return.

Yet, if you are looking to add massive value to your life, you should give something away freely and right now-your time

Now to be clear, I am not suggesting you wipe away all habits, rituals, and boundaries you have developed to be a good steward of your time. Rather, I’m going to convince you to infuse these three time giveaways. After all, time is our  most precious commodity.

  1. Give away your time for learning

Continual, lifelong learning is the single best way to become a better version of you with each passing day. Learn new ideas. Learn new skills. Learn a new vantage point.  Learn hard and difficult things and learn them deeply knowing the pursuit and time invested will enrich and grow you. Seek out folks who know more than you and learn from them.

2. Give away your time for listening

Becoming an expert listener is an acquired skill, and one which has great rewards. Become the type of listener who can suspend your own thoughts, priorities, and advice, while thoroughly taking in what is being said with the emotional tone with which it is communicated. Reflect what you are hearing, encourage what is being said, and ask deep, clarifying follow-up questions to truly understand. Expert listeners are sought but hard to find.

3. Giveaway your time for teaching and mentoring

There is no better way for us to master what we know than to teach it to others. Teaching demands we research. Teaching demands we condense and clarify. Teaching demands we become master instructors and communicators. Plus we create legacy. We pass on our “blood, sweat, and tears” to others, who hopefully we have encouraged to carry the baton forward and do the same.

3 time giveaways which you can giveaway starting today. All three will have a massive impact on others (those you learn from, those you listen to, those you teach) and massive impact personally for you as well.
